Jesus said,
John 6:47
For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, And do not return there,
But water the earth, And make it bring forth and bud,
That it may give seed to the sower And bread to the eater,
So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void,
But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.
-Isaiah 55:10-11
What Is Spiritual Warfare?
Spiritual Warfare is not easy to define as it covers a large area. We can begin to define it as actively seeking to know God better, and striving to do His will. This definition may seem rather simple, however it is the bare bones of warfare. We can not take spiritual warfare and separate it from other aspects of Christianity. Knowing God and growing to know Him more and more is of the utmost importance to Christians. And it's absolutely terrifying to Satan. The more we strive to know God and grow in His love, the less influence Satan has on us. When we pray for the salvation of others, we are blocking the work of Satan in trying to destroy that soul. When we grow hungry for the presence of God, the temptations of the flesh lessen. Knowing God is the key ingredient in Spiritual Warfare. When we know God, we automatically desire the things He desires. When we live our lives according to the Word of God, the works of the devil automatically get squashed. This is one level of warfare in which every Christian has no choice but to be involved in. There are Christians who will refuse to acknowledge the spiritual war but this in no way means they will not be a part of it. The Christian who does not acknowledge this truth, is the Christian who will lose many battles to Satan and his own flesh.
Another level, and more widely used definition of spiritual warfare is a direct battle between the forces of good and evil. There are Christians who have been and will be engaging in a formal battle with Satan. They will have encounters with demons, and Satanic elements within our society. The majority of Christians will not be involved in warfare at this level, however we should all be prepared for such a situation.
In both levels of warfare a very important ingredient which comes second only to knowing God, is knowing our enemy. In every war, physical or spiritual getting to know the enemy is of great importance. If we know when the enemy is most likely to attack, and how he is most likely to attack, there is no question we will be more able to stand strong against him.
Christians are a member of the body of Christ. As with our own bodies, each member has a different function. Christ has given us all different gifts and calls us to different roles. Not every Christian will be called to be a Spiritual Warrior at the second level of warfare discussed above. However we can all be involved at some level.
The Spiritual Warfare Traps
There are two extreme traps to be aware of. The first is over emphasis on Satan. We can become so involved in trying to fight Satan, that we forget about God. Satan knows this, and he uses it to his advantage! There is a demon behind every bush just waiting to attack - this is the mindset that Satan uses in order to take our attention away from God. Our attention is taken drawn away so slowly that we may not even realize it is happen. Remember there are far more Angels of God then there are Angels of Satan. Also remember that although Satan is very powerful, his power is limited and God's is much greater . It's important for all Christians, to stay focused on the word of God at all times.
The second extreme trap is believing that if we talk or think about Satan we are glorifying him. Jesus spoke about Satan often, and he in no way glorified him. Jesus understood the impact that Satan could have on humanity, and wanted us to understand this as well. Jesus gave us authority over demons, but we can not use that authority if we refuse to think/talk about them.
Both of these extreme traps can result in fear. If you come face to face with a demon are you going to:
A) cower at his overwhelming power
B) run and hide so you don't have to look at the face of evil
C) stand your ground with confidence, believing in the authority God has given you over demons.
I hope you picked C! If you didn't please take a moment to think about the scriptures listed below
Romans 8:37 - But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
1 John 4:4 - You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.
Ephesians 6:10-14 - Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.
1 James 4:7-8 - Submit therefore to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts you double minded.
How Do We Engage In Spiritual Warfare?
First we must adopt a new attitude. There is no room for complacency in the heart of a Spiritual Warrior. We must believe not only with our minds in the authority God has given us, but we must believe with our hearts. We are saved through the grace of God. We all deal with doubts and Satan will throw doubts at us constantly. We must not accept them! Refuse doubt, live in the confidence of your salvation. W.W.J.D Walk with Jesus Daily! Focus on God, Satan will try to distract you anyway he can. Recognize this and do not allow him to distract you. Read the bible, study and spend time with God - there are no excuses not to. You are responsible for you. If you are not prepared for Satan's attack, you are at fault, not Satan. If you do not spend time trying to grow in God's word, you are responsible for your ignorance, not God. Make prayer a part of your life. Get to know God - talk to Him and listen to Him. You are not in this alone - God is right by your side! Familiarize yourself with His word, specifically the armor of God.
Who Is Jesus?
Jesus is the Son of God. Jesus lived before the creation of humanity. The bible tells us that all things were created through Him. When the time was right, Jesus came to us in the flesh. He was born into this world through a virgin named Mary. Jesus came for a specific reason, and that reason was to give us eternal life. The example Jesus gave us through His life was one of love and forgiveness. His death was also an example of love and forgiveness. Jesus was not murdered, he willingly laid down His life for us. There were many opportunities for Him to save His own life, but instead He choose to save ours. Three days after His death Jesus rose again, showing us that He had conquered death.
God prepared the Jews of the old testament for the arrival of His Son, but still many would not accept Him when He did come. Adam and Eve disobeyed God by eating the fruit from the tree of knowledge even though God had warned them that this would bring death to them. As a result we are all born into sin, and the price for that sin is death. The Jews of the old testament sacrificed animals in order to atone for their sins. They had to sacrifice animal after animal because the blood of animals was not great enough to forgive all of their sins.
Because the price for our sin is death, we are sitting on death row, waiting for our death penalty to be carried out, however there is one way out. God loved us so much, that he could not endure watching us undergo the death penalty. God, being a Holy God, also could not allow sin to be in his presence. He came up with a plan to both save us from death and wash away our sins. God sent His son Jesus to take our place. Jesus willingly sacrificed His life in our place so that we could live. He endured hate, torture, and death for our sake, that is how much He loved us. The blood shed by Jesus is so strong that through it, all of our sins, past, present and future can be forgiven. In this world, very little is free, and so it's hard for us to understand that this is a free gift from God. There is nothing we can do to earn this gift, it is only through God's grace we can be can be set free from this death penalty. When someone gives you a gift there is one thing you must do in order to receive it - you must reach out and take it. In order to receive this gift from God, you must reach out to God and take it.
Why Do I Need Jesus?
Have you ever been in a dark room, a movie theater perhaps? What happens when you first walk out of that room? The light is blinding, you may even be tempted, just for a second, to turn around and stay in the room. But once you do leave, the light seems refreshing. Lets say you are in this dark room, and its all you have ever known. If you stay in the room, you won't know the joy of day, you will only know darkness. You also won't understand what you have been missing, after all what is light to someone who only knows Darkness? But if you leave. . .
If you leave the room, at first you will be blinded with light. But in a few seconds your eyes will adjust and you will see how beautiful the light is, how refreshing and freeing it is. Without Christ, your life is just like the dark room, void of any light, and perhaps even void of the concept of light. It takes bravery to walk away from that dark room -- away from all you have known, but if you can find the strength to walk out the door, into that light, you will see how beautiful, and liberating Jesus is. Jesus is waiting for you on the other side of the door, all you have to do is open it. Take His hand and allow Him to help you into the light (His light)
The dark can be so much of a comfort. It's a place where you can hide from everything, everyone and even yourself. The dark covers up your lies, your insecurities, your fears, cover-up your past. In the dark, you can be anyone you want to be, or at least you can seem to be anyone you want to be -- and no one will discover the real you. But imagine not having to hide your lies, your insecurities, fears, and past? Can you imagine that? Can you imagine the freedom of not having to hide? The light may seem harsh and obtrusive, when you have been living in darkness, but what the light really is (What Jesus Is) is freedom. Jesus loves you the way you are. He doesn't care about your past, He doesn't ask you to behave a certain way before you can ask Him into your life. All He asks for is your belief in Him and what He did for you. Jesus will give you peace, give you love, give you assurances. He wants you to come to Him as you are. If you need change in your life, He will help bring that change about He does not ask that you come to Him, already changed. Give the light a chance. Give freedom a chance. Try Jesus.
What Does The Bible Say About Salvation?
Romans 3:10 - as it is written, "THERE IS NONE RIGHTEOUS, NOT EVEN ONE;
- Righteous means right - none of us are right all the time.
2) Romans 3:23 - for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
- There is not one single person that is good enough to earn their way into Heaven. Every one of ...us has sinned
3) Romans 5:12 - Therefore, just as though one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned --
- Sin entered the world through Adam, and when sin entered the world, so did death.
4) Romans 6:23 - .For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus, our Lord.
- As talked about above, the price for our sin, is death, but there is one way to be free of death, that is through Jesus Christ. Salvation is a gift to us, it can not be bought through good works, rituals or money.
5) Romans 6:8-10 - Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, is never to die again; death no longer is master over Him. For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God.
- When Jesus died, he conquered death once and for all. His sacrifice was enough for all of our sins, past, present and future. We never have to worry about death again if we believe in and accept His sacrifice for us.
Romans 10:9,13 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. for "WHOEVER WILL CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED."
- Whoever calls on the Lord will be saved, there are no exceptions. Your sins are not too terrible for Jesus to clean away with His blood. It doesn't matter if you are a liar, abuser, rapist or murderer. Jesus will save you if you just believe in Him and call on Him.
Here are some other bible verses you may want to check out:
Matthew 18:11- 14, Luke 19:9 - 10, Luke 19:10 John 3:15-18
2 Corinthians 5:17 -18 1 Timothy 2:3-4 Titus 3:5-6 Romans 2:22-24 Ephesians 2:4-5
How Can I Become A Christian?
1) Admit that you are a sinner in need of a Savior
We are all sinners. Our sin can be as simple as a lie, or as complex as murder. By admitting you are sinners, we are not saying we are a bad or terrible person, we are saying we are humans who have made mistakes in life . . . just like everyone else.
2) Believe that Jesus Christ died for you on the Cross and rose again
There is a difference between knowing something, and believing it. Knowing comes from the mind, believing comes from the heart. Sometimes we find it hard to believe, even though we want to. . . that's ok. . make the choice to believe, and ask God to help you grow stronger in your faith.
3) Pray, ask Jesus Christ into your life
Many people avoid praying, because it seems so ritualistic to them, something you have to prepare for, and something you have to do a certain way. But it does not have to be ritualistic. Jesus can be your best friend if you allow him to be. Imagine you are talking with your best friend. The only rule that is involved with prayer is this - Pray with your heart. Kneel down, or sit, close your eyes or look to the heaven and read the following with your heart or use it as a reference for creating your own prayer.
Prayer Of Salvation
Jesus, I am a sinner, and I ask for your forgiveness. I know Jesus that You died for me, that You sacrificed Your self so that I may have eternal life, and rose again. I acknowledge that you are Lord of my life. I ask you Jesus, to come into my heart. Please help me to learn to hear your voice, and grow closer to you. Thank you Lord for the salvation you have given me.
I asked Jesus Into My Life, Now What?
God has given us two wonderful gifts. He sent His Son to be our savior, and He sent the Holy Spirit to be our comforter. God wants an intimate relationship with us. Through the example of Jesus we see that God is not a distant force that we can not hope to know, He is our heavenly Father. . . A perfect Father. As in any relationship, to help it grow communication is needed. Talk to your Heavenly Father, He always has time to listen to you. And listen to Him, He has so much He wants to share with you. Don't expect to hear God clearly right away, ask Him to help you learn to recognize His voice - He will
When a new baby is placed in his fathers arms for the first time, the father automatically falls in love with that child. . . why? It's not because the baby has done anything to deserve his fathers love, it is simply because that baby is his. That is how God loves you, you don't need to do anything to earn His love, you already have it. That may seem like a very simple thing, but it is something we sometimes forget. Believe it or not, there are some things God can not do. God can not stop loving you . . . because you are so special to Him. God is incapable of pushing you away. . . because He wants so much to be with you forever. If you make mistakes, if you fall, don't worry, God is not going to turn His back on you, He will stand and stretch His hand out towards you and lift you up if you allow Him to.
What church should I go to?
God tells us we need to fellowship. . . that means we need to spend time with other Christians who can support us in our walk with God. Find a good church. No, I'm not going to push my denomination here, although you are more then welcome to visit my church on the web or in person. The bible defines church as a body of believers, that means that Christians are the church. It doesn't matter if you meet other Christians in an actual church building, or in someone's home, but it is important that you do meet them. You might hear someone telling you that you have to go to a church that worships on Saturday or one that worships on Sunday. Again.. don't worry! Go where God leads you - Pray about it! Go where God wants you, not where man tells you to go. When choosing a church here are some important questions to ask them.
1) How can a person be saved?
Answer: Only through the blood of Jesus, we can not be saved through our own works. (Titus 3:4-6, Ephesians 12:8-9) Some churches have been misled to believe you can be saved by being a good person or taking place in certain rituals.
2) Is Jesus the Son of God?
Answer: Yes! (John 20:31) If anyone tells you that Jesus is not the Son of God, that He is just a good man or a prophet, don't listen to them! Believe what the bible says.
3) Are the Father and Son one?
Answer: Yes! (I John 5:7) This is a rather involved question to answer, but the basics of it are this, Jesus Himself said that He and the Father were one and Jesus does not lie.
4) Is the Holy Spirit a figure of speech or an actual thinking third person of the trinity?
Answer: The Holy Spirit is an actual thinking person of the trinity. (John 14:16, 14:26, 1 Cor 12:7) The Holy Spirit is our comforter and teacher, and yet some have twisted the bible so much they teach that He is only a feeling or symbol.
Why should you ask them these questions?
Unfortunately there are a lot of people & churches that call themselves Christian, yet do not believe fully in the bible but twist its words to suit their own life style. As a new Christian it's important that you not allow yourself to be led away from the truth of Jesus Christ, by those who would do so, either by ignorance or deliberate deception. (1 Tim 1:2, 2 tim 3:1-10)
I really don't know anything about the bible, what do I need to know?
The Bible is a collection of 66 ancient books, written by 40 authors, covering a period of approximately 1,600 years. These books have been bound together in the bible. Before the invention of the printing press, the bible had to be copied by hand, today we are very lucky, to be able to easily buy a bible (at least in some parts of the world). The bible was originally written in Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic. A translation is the conversion of these words from their ancient form, into our own language - The finished product is called a version. The bible is broken up into two halves, The Old Testament, and the New Testament. The word Testament means covenant or agreement, so in fact the Old Testament is a book about the Old Covenant (life before Jesus - living under the law), and the New Testament is a book about the New Covenant (life after Jesus, living by grace).
To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice;
and he calleth his own sheep by name,
and leadeth them out.
John 10:3
God is Good,All the Time,
All the Time, God is Good...
